Sutton and Epsom have always been known for strong junior sides, but the U18 squad they brought to Vandals were made to fight hard for their 25 points to 5 win by a home team, most of whom were U17. The age difference did tell, particularly at the breakdown were Vandals were often turned over, but despite being under considerable pressure their tackling and defensive work for the most part, was exemplary, and the demonstrated great spirit fighting back after conceding tries. The try they scored was evidence of this supreme effort, and, while forward James Edmunds powered his way over after great work by fly half Tom Hopkinson, who showed his elusive running throughout the game, the whole squad can take huge credit for the build up to this score. Sutton and Epsom showed some good continuity work and slick handling to score their tries, and were deserved winners, but Vandals can be proud of their performance.
