Dreadfull weather and a soggy pitch cause problems for Vandals!

Vandals managed to negotiate the long train journey down to Newton Abbot safely but the game took place on a waterlogged pitch and more water fell throughout the match increasing the difficult conditions.

The game started well for Vandals with James Gulliver scoring a fine individual try and then a kick through by Rory Burtenshaw, which he followed up and scored with (probably) the most outrageous theatrical dive saw Vandals leading 0 - 10 in the first few minutes.
The guys must have thought they would walk this game but Newton Abbot and their fly half had very different ideas!
The fly half kicked extremely well, using the poor underfoot conditions to his advantage. He kicked well, behind the full back or into space, for his backs to follow through, taking the ball and going over several times without reply from Vandals. It was a greatly contested game and ended with Newton Abbot deserved winners by a scoreline of 31 - 10.
Vandals were really undone by their poor tackling and not contesting at rucks which allowed Newton Abbot to dominate the play.

Hopefully both the weather and the performance would improve the following day!
