Great attitude and determination.

Great day for rugby and entertaining London Welsh!
Before the start of the warm up, it was very pleasing to see that we had a squad of 25 to choose from for the starting 15, thanks to lads coming from Feltham to have a look at joining us.
The game began very evenly, with London Welsh trying several attacks using their large forwards and being stifled by great determined tackles from Vandals. London Welsh were continually infringing at the break down, either not entering through the gate or going off their feet. The first 25 minutes passed with no score from either side and attacks being snuffed out until London Welsh found a way through the defence to score and convert the try.
From the restart, Vandals exerted great pressure, showing good patience which resulted in a try for Milan Virdee which was converted by Adam Varney. The half ended with the scores tied at 7 points all.

London Welsh started the second half much stronger and were better organised, supporting the ball carrier well and scored 2 quick tries in the first 10 minutes of the half.
Vandals hit back with great drives from Max McArdle who reaped the rewards with a well worked try which was converted by Harry weatherall. London Welsh hit back with a sustained drive of their own, eventually crossing the line for another try which was not converted. This was followed by a great individual effort from their #6 who went the length of the pitch having ripped the ball from a Vandals player in their 22 to score, again not converted.

Vandals galvanised and spent a long time with possession of the ball, showing a very patience approach and with London Welsh again committing fouls, they continued to make slow progress towards the London Welsh line. Eventually, the pressure told with Elliot Lewis breaking through for a good score.
The game ended shortly after the last try with London Welsh deserving victors by 27 points to 19.

There was great support from parents today and it was pleasing that the many changes of substitutes didn't disrupt the style of Vandals play. Everyone got a run out and took a very active part in the game. There were many positives to be taken and this was a very good effort against a larger, stronger pack. The boys contained London Welsh well by closing down their space quickly and making many tackles.

This is a very good place to be, prior to our first league game against Camberley next week - well done all who took part!
