An Entertaining afternoon in the Sunshine at Vandals as Ist and 2nds notch up wins against visiting Eastbourne By John Farrow

Weybridge Vandals 34pts Eastbourne 24pts

Vandals fought hard for this latest victory against their Sussex rivals and the success was thoroughly deserved with the team in the ascendancy for a good percentage of the game. Eastbourne played some fine rugby too and came back resolutely in the second half but Vandals were full value for consolidating their high position in the league.

Vandals however were slow out-of-the-box, and Eastbourne were quick to take advantage with their winger following up a kick thru to touchdown for the opening try. Vandals were quick to respond for Vandals with Darren Lockyer driving over from a strong attacking line out. The two further quick Vandals tries gave them a lead of 21 pts to 5.

This was quickly increased to 24 pts with a Sam Bullet penalty. Responding quickly the visitors then put up a fine cross kick for their left wing to race onto and get the touchdown for their second score bringing the first half to a conclusion with vandals leading by 24 pts to 10
Vandals began the second-half as they did the first 40 minutes and might well have increased their tally but the long distance penalty kick fell just short. They soon made amends with a great try following from a cross kick and with the conversion Vandals led by 31 points to 10, but they were then put under pressure by a strong comeback from the visitors who took advantage of Vandals being yellow carded twice in quick succession to get within seven points of the home sides total. But although Eastbourne fought back provided a nervous last 10mins for the home side, Vandals defense held on and slotted over a last minute penalty courtesy of Sam Bullet’s reliable left boot to secure their win.

In a pleasing Double header against the visiting Eastbourne sides, there was a comprehensive victory for Vandals 2nd XV ,bolstered by a large contingent of Vets players, who won by the large margin of 57-10
