1st XV
I delighted to say that our strong start to the season has continued throughout October and that after 7 league games our 1st XV sit in second place in Surrey/Sussex Counties 1 just one point behind league leaders Trinity RFC.
This performance is even more remarkable given the high number of injuries we have suffered and the fact that 29 players have represented the 1st XV so far this season. We have been building our strength in depth now over a number of seasons and it is credit to our hard working coaching team led by DOR Damian and the whole playing squad that we have continued to play an exciting brand of attacking rugby despite the injuries. We have always known that if we are to deliver on our ambition to win the league this year it would be a real collective squad effort and so it is proving.
During November and December we have some very big fixtures as we play fellow promotion contenders Old Ruts, Twickenham, Eastbourne and Trinity over a six week period which will go a long way to deciding our season.
2nd XV
I’m pleased to report that despite the long list of players unavailable through injury we have fulfilled all our 2nd XV fixtures with notable wins in recent weeks away to Dorking and KCS with notable performances from a few colts players and support from Owls players. The Owls unbeaten start to the season also continues with an exciting Friday night lights win against a strong London Irish Vets team.
Our 1s & 2s have a well earned rest from league rugby this coming weekend but we do have a mixed club team ( 2s,colts and Owls) taking on local rivals Reeds under the lights at Brownacres this Friday kicking off at 7.30pm. All support welcome.
Our next 1st XV league game is next Saturday 9th November when we take on Haywards Heath. Take up for our supporters lunch that day is very disappointing so far with many regulars going to the England vs Australia game at Twickenham. Our game kicks off at 2pm and we will be serving a luxury 2 course lunch for a bargain £20 from 12.30pm. If you would like to come to the lunch please let me know asap at kevin.keaney@ntlworld.com
