KCS 22pts Weybridge Vandals 34pts
A fine performance by Vandals in this first game of the new season, however they were made to work hard for the win as the Old Boys displayed some fine attacking rugby in front of their Home crowd Nevertheless it was a well-earned success and Vandals can look forward taking a winning start into the forthcoming season.
Vandals began in a positive fashion with a breakout wide but then conceded a penalty comfortably converted to give an early lead to KCS. Stung by this early reverse Vandals was soon back on the attack with James Gulliver breaking from a scrum and setting up a scoring chance for Tom Bolger which he took leaving defenders in his wake as he sped to the try line.
Vandals were soon on the scoresheet again with Karle Hoade showing his eye for a defensive lapse plunging over in the corner. 10 pts to3 soon became 17 pts to 3 as speed merchant Harry Weatherall broke from his own 22 and his blistering run took him to the try line to touch down for James O'Mara to convert with the superb kick. A great run by Cameron Edgar led to a further Vandals converted try but then they lost their player to the sinbin and KCS took full advantage to crash over for a try which they then converted bring the match to half time.
KCS continued in attacking vein at the start of the second-half with further score and bouyed up by this scored another try again to be now two points behind at 22-24.
Vandals rallied once more and after a penetrating run by Callum Hennessy they scored again following a catch and drive at a lineout. Urged on by their coaching staff the team maintained their determination and desire to increase their points tally and they duly achieved this goal in a late burst with tries from Reece Gray and Luke Hempstead bringing them a further 10 pts and a secure win.
